Yulupa Sangha Weekly Meditation
and Book Study
Thursdays 5:30 - 6:30 pm PT on Zoom
Led by Mary Ann Sacksteder
Please consider joining us!
The Yulupa Sangha has been meeting weekly for about seven years. Currently, we meet only on zoom.
This group is a meditation and dharma book study oriented group, thirty minutes of meditation followed by thirty minutes of book study. There is no dharma talk. We read, explore, and share our collective reflections, focusing especially on how the dharma is alive in, and applies to, our daily lives. Each person is a source of dharma teaching as we enter the text, allowing us to enjoy each other and to grow through our conversations about the text.
In general, we choose a text to study for a period of time. In the past we have studied:
Suzuki Roshi’s Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind
Koans from The Hidden Lamp
Subtle Sound, The Zen Teachings of Maurine Stuart
It’s Easier Than You Think by Sylvia Boorstein
Stories from the Lotus Sutra
Currently we are studying Suzuki Roshi’s Not Always So. We try to choose books that lend themselves to reading in short, discrete chunks that are self-contained in each of our meetings. While it’s nice when people attend regularly, the format is designed to make it workable for people who can only attend on a drop-in basis.
